India Impact Trip

India is a land of extreme opposites. As the economy develops and the country becomes more and more similar to North America, hundreds of millions are left behind in slums of poverty and living on less than $1 per day.

In these situations, women and children become the most vulnerable. Combined with the overwhelming poverty in India, are cultural beliefs that women are less valuable are often abused or cast out of their homes. Mukti Mission is all too familiar with this reality!

Founded in 1889 in India, Mukti’s aim has been to change the lives of young girls and destitute women through a range of initiatives that demonstrate the love of God, in a practical way.

By providing secure homes, these women and children have found stability, care, health, and acceptance regardless of their backgrounds. For some, these shelters were the first homes they ever had.

Mukti also supports the communities with other essential services:

These programs and services provide a safe place for women and children to grow and live confident, independent lives. The result is that a new generation of leaders are being trained and that women are returning to their communities to be transformed and empowered to break the cycle of poverty and desperation. For 120 years, Mukti Mission has been caring for Indian women and girls from its main home and throughout India with smaller expansion homes.

Now, you have the chance to be a part of bringing hope to those living at Mukti.

Our teams are comprised of a unique and diverse group of individuals who are passionate about investing their skill sets in varying ministry assignments throughout the day, serving in different areas across the main Mukti campus.

The project begins with meeting your teammates in country and going through cultural orientation training, teaching you what to expect on site at Mukti. Each day, the team meets for a morning briefing, followed by a devotional time together with all of Mukti’s staff.

The team then moves into their morning ministry assignment (with a break for chai of course!) before heading to lunch, followed by an afternoon ministry assignment. There are always lots of opportunities to serve at Mukti and you could find yourself working alongside another Canadian teammate teaching in a school or perhaps working with Mukti staff in a farm field, helping in the nursery or in another area of need.

Late afternoons are spent for rest or playing games with the Mukti girls, you may also find yourself tutoring some of the older girls as they prepare for summer exams. After a team dinner, evenings are filled with visits to the flower families, ministry as a team to the women or perhaps playing a game or studying scripture together.

On the weekend, you will have a chance to travel to a nearby city to see some sites and the project wraps up with a team debrief, a chance to reflect together and prepare for re-entry into Canada.

We have deeply missed sending our yearly project to serve alongside the team at Mukti Mission in India and are excited to return in from August 2-18, 2024. Mukti Mission’s vision is to provide a “Christ-centered home where destitute women and children irrespective of their background are accepted, cared for, transformed, and empowered to be salt and light in the society.”

LIFE team participants have the opportunity to come alongside the Mukti staff to serve in a variety of areas and in different ways. This family-friendly project will be working on the main Mukti campus and there are a variety of needs on the grounds and areas to serve in! Mukti has a hospital, multiple schools, elderly care homes, a church and farm, maintenance and social work teams all on their main campus.  Through the project, you will have an opportunity to serve in different areas at Mukti alongside their incredible staff team! This could look like any of the following: 

• Joining and leading staff devotions
• Helping at the primary school or at the special needs school (when in session)
• Leading camp activities for the children (when school is out of session)
• Spending time with the babies at the nursery
• Serving at the farm with a variety of tasks as needed
• Assisting with maintenance projects around the mission
• Serving alongside the social worker at the special needs home for older women
• Assisting in the business office
• Helping with patient care at the clinic
• Visiting different family groups and spending time with the children and women residents
